On the afternoon of July 13, at the invitation of the School of Integrated Circuits And Microelectronics, Professor Slawomir Gruszczynski of AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland, visited the School and delivered an academic report entitled “Directional Couplers for Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits.” The report was the second session of the School’s “Zhixin Huisi” Academic Forum Series. The session was chaired by Associate Dean Wang Shaoxi, and more than twenty faculty members and students attended, including Dean Ma Binghe, Assistant to the Dean Li Tianlun, and Professor Gao Feng and Associate Professor Xu Jie from the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

Dean Ma Binghe first extended a warm welcome to Professor Slawomir Gruszczynski. Associate Dean Wang Shaoxi then introduced the historical development, academic discipline layout, and distinctive research strengths of the School of Integrated Circuits And Microelectronics. Professor Slawomir Gruszczynski subsequently delivered his academic report. He first gave an overview of AGH University of Science and Technology and its Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, and then offered a systematic account of the design of directional couplers in monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs). The report focused on the fundamental principles and performance optimization methods of coupled-line directional couplers, demonstrated how capacitive compensation techniques can be used to improve coupler performance, and presented a series of innovative design results. In addition, he introduced various monolithically integrated coupler structures developed using the UMS PH25 process, as well as research outcomes on monolithic sensors with self-calibration capability.

During the interactive discussion session, participating faculty and students engaged in an in-depth exchange with Professor Slawomir Gruszczynski on topics including directional coupler design, impedance transformation networks, and new microwave dielectric materials. In closing, Associate Dean Wang Shaoxi noted that this academic exchange had effectively strengthened scholarly ties between the School and AGH University of Science and Technology. The School will continue to organize more special-topic academic talks to foster a vibrant academic atmosphere and further broaden the academic horizons of faculty and students.
