To help the Class of 2025 review progress and plan ahead mid-semester, clarify their development at university, and sort out problems in study and growth, the 2025 Cohort Mid-Term Assembly and Peer Experience Sharing of the School of Integrated Circuits And Microelectronics, Northwestern Polytechnical University, was held on May 21 in Jiao Xi B1-301. The meeting was chaired by student counselor Liu Haomin, with a special appearance by Yin Xinxiang, an outstanding undergraduate from the 2023 cohort of the School of Software, who shared practical advice on university life and growth.

At the start of the meeting, Liu Haomin explained the main purpose of the mid-term session, stressing that this stage is a key time to close gaps in learning and refine study plans. She encouraged students to draw on the real experience of a senior student, identify their own weak points, set clear goals, and move steadily through university.

In the sharing session, Yin Xinxiang drew on his own experience and covered five topics: GPA, competitions and comprehensive evaluation, research, postgraduate recommendation, and extracurricular life. A National Scholarship recipient for two consecutive years, he has strong results in academic competitions and research: he won multiple regional gold medals at ICPC and CCPC and advanced to the World Finals, took second place in the International Advanced Robotics and Simulation Technology Competition and in Huawei’s AI Ascend Native Operator track, published two papers as first author at CCF-A conferences, and has secured an internship at the University of Hong Kong.

Speaking to the needs of first-year students, he shared concrete ways to raise GPA, how to balance competitions with comprehensive evaluation, practical steps for starting research, key checkpoints for postgraduate recommendation, and how to plan extracurricular activities. The session was practical and full of useful takeaways.

At the end of the meeting, Liu Haomin gave closing remarks. She thanked Yin Xinxiang for his candid sharing and, given where the Class of 2025 stood mid-semester, urged students to strengthen their foundation in the major and make long-term plans with the senior student as a model. She encouraged them to make good use of their time at university, balance study and life, stay practical and be willing to try new things, build knowledge through study and gain experience through practice, and work toward becoming innovative talent who meet the country’s strategic needs.
